On Saturday, I participated in my first Tough Mudder obstacle course. This isn't your granny's obstacle course. This is a race that tests you both physically and mentally.

The race is typically 10-12 miles long, and they have a variety of pretty awesome obstacles. Each race involves around 20 "official" obstacles, but they litter a variety of other obstacles throughout the course (logs to hop, hills to ascend/descend, etc.).

I've done the Dirty Dash and Gladiator Rock 'n Run in the past. Those are entry-level obstacle courses (only about 5k with easy obstacles), and I was ready to really challenge myself. I trained for a full 9 months prior to the race doing a combination of Insanity, P90X, and running.

Here's the official Seattle 2013 Course Map. The course was slightly varied from what shows on the map, but it's a fairly close representation to what we did. The total course length this year was 11 miles.

I ran the race with my friend John. I also met my friend Stan and his dad there, but we split up in pairs (as it's easier to run in teams of two). The larger groups always get hung up waiting for people, and it can take a long time to complete.

I wore a GoPro camera on my head for the race. It almost lasted the entire race, but it died just before the last two obstacles. I've got a video of the race and obstacles below. It's a bit long, so skip through if you don't want to watch the whole thing

The race took us about 2 hours and 40 minutes to complete. We got stuck behind some obstacles with long lines of people. Next year, I want to go out in the first wave and try to avoid the lines. I think I should be able to finish it in under 2 hours.

All in all, it was an amazing experience. I didn't make it across a couple of the obstacles that I should have, so I've got to step it up for next year. I wanted to go right back out there and do it again as soon as we finished, so I can't wait for next year!

Shoutout to my wife Christi for all of her support during my training. I definitely could not have done it without her!

Our small team - we did it!

It just started hailing for about 5 minutes. Like nothing I've ever seen before in Washington. It almost felt like we were being attacked. So loud. Turned the sport court white almost instantly. And then it stopped as fast as it started.

I went to Seahawks practice earlier this week on my birthday. This was the first time I had gone to a practice, and it was a lot of fun! I'll definitely be going back.

What a better way to follow up my Google made me a dog post than to show what FiberCloud turned me into.  I went to the Cloud Fair Conference last week, and FiberCloud had a caricature artist at their booth.  I figured "what the heck?" and got my caricature drawn.

I think it's a hilarious caricature; a combination of me & Mr. Ed.  Whaddya think?

At Social Strata, we normally use iChat for video conferencing our cross-country meetings. We had decided to give Google+'s Hangout feature a try one time to see how it compared. Apparently I clicked on the wrong button (still not sure what it was), as Google transformed me into a dog.

Needless to say, it can be quite distracting trying to hold a meeting when everyone is laughing at you!
